While his rap career was on hold. LoDeck became the manager of a Canadian reggaeton
group El Gringos Locos. In winter of 2010, the group was touring in Tennessee,
where they were invited to perform on Redneck Robbie's Reggaeton Hour radio show.
Afterwards, a young radio intern/aspiring MC Boxguts tried to convince LoDeck
to get back into rapping. Despite his pleas, LoDeck and the El Gringos Locos
were already on the tour bus, when another guest of the show, Karate Jim
severely damaged the bus' front axle during a supervised exhibition
of his axe kick. El Gringos Locos were stuck stuck in a tiny motel
by the infamous Goose Pond Swamp for the next two days. The portable
studio on the bus became a place for non-stop freestyle sessions.
Boxguts eventually convinced LoDeck to record a few new raps.
The smell of the swamp was a combination of possum decay, alligator excrement
and rotten folliage.
The artists jokingly described this aroma as 'freestyle cologne.'
A few months later, El Gringos Locos broke up, meanwhile LoDeck
continued collaborating with Boxguts. They are now a rap group.
Freestyle Cologne is their name.
